- the story of anvil
I have never really been a fan of anvil...but I always knew their place in metal and respect their influence.
watching this, I first got the impression that they were just living in the past, couldn't let go of what they once had. Stuck in the early eighties. But as the movie went on, I saw them different. They were old kids that never let go of their dream. Never compromised, never sold out, and never gave up. They struggled on through hard years where most people would have thrown in the towel. I was really impressed by their "never quit" attitude. It's a very uplifting documentary.
It's nice to see a band do it for the music, and not the money. I am sure they want to get paid of course, but that's not their motivation...they just wanna play, and play for people who wanna hear The sad thing is, is from what Ive heard of theirs, they were alot better than all the other hairspray-fag bands that were around at that time. They were a bit cheesey, but they had some pretty decent shit (for that time period. I hate 80's / glam shite with a passion). I still wanna see the movie. Ive only heard bits and pieces of stuff on TV. My Broe has the DVD. I need to borrow it. If they were a bunch of bitch looking prettybois , they prolly woulda made it I was watchin em on VH1 classic one night. Dude was using old school FENDER amps. Never thought of using stuff like that to play heavy stuff Jarrett showed me one thing on the vid he has where they have a big magnum backline of old hot rodded late 70's Marshalls back in the day

What is "The Source" ??? I did an imdb search and came up with one Jon Turturro/Johnny Depp thing, about Jack Kerouac ... more kinda docu-drama style ... and one thing that was Highlander: The Source .... and one thing that is some 'outcast teenagers' sci-fi thriller

I fixed it: The Surge - outcast teenagers thing. ugh. Funny though: THe Highlander Directors cut: 1986: The only thing good was Queen did the soundtract. Bad acting and bad effects (12 animators to do a 40 sec. end sceen of a shitty chalk dragon swirling around?). And reallly?! Was this a joke? Sean Connery is cast as an Egyptian from Spain?!! Nothings funnier than hearing him say, " Ok Pendejo! Lets see what you've got!" Plus the Highland looks like the B - I think he would have done a better job acting too. Clancy Brown saved this movie and was cool though. The Highlander - The Source The Highlander - The Final Dimension glutton for punishment.....ALL THESE MOVIES NEEDED MORE ROBOTS AND ALOT MORE BOOBS, the shady half tits they showed couldn't even help - maybe if I was 10 but..... ........yup I wath the other like 5 if I come across them just to bitch about em

| I think it's a good movie, it kept me interested (but in no way should it have gotten the best movie oscar over avatar)
but I heard that iraq veterans think the movie is far fetched and unrealistic...I guess they ARE the experts

Response among veterans
While most traditional media reviews of The Hurt Locker were positive, the movie was criticized by some Iraq veterans and embedded reporters for inaccurately portraying wartime conditions.[39] Writing for The Huffington Post, Iraq veteran Kate Hoit said that The Hurt Locker is "Hollywood's version of the Iraq war and of the soldiers who fight it, and their version is inaccurate." She described the film as being more accurate than other recently released war movies, but expressed concerns that numerous errors in the portrayal of military conditions would prevent service members from enjoying the film.[40]
Author Brandon Friedman, also a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, shared a similar view at VetVoice: "The Hurt Locker is a high-tension, well-made, action movie that will certainly keep most viewers on the edges of their seats. But if you know anything about the Army, or about operations or life in Iraq, you'll be so distracted by the nonsensical sequences and plot twists that it will ruin the movie for you. It certainly did for me." Friedman criticized the accuracy of the film's representation of combat, saying "in real life, EOD techs don't conduct dangerous missions as autonomous three-man teams without communications gear... Another thing you'll rarely hear in combat is an EOD E-7 suggesting to two or three of his guys that they leave the scene of an explosion in an Iraqi city by saying: "C'mon, let's split up. We can cover more ground that way." "[41]
At the blog Army of Dude, infantryman and Iraq veteran Alex Horton noted that "the way the team goes about their missions is completely absurd," though he went on to call the film "the best Iraq movie to date."[42]
Troy Steward, another combat veteran, wrote on the blog Bouhammer that while the film accurately depicted the scale of bomb violence and the relations between Iraqis and troops, "just about everything else wasn’t realistic." Steward went on to say: "I was amazed that a movie so bad could get any kind of accolades from anyone."[43]
Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America states on his facebook page that the movie is "... not based on a true story, but on a true war...in which I have seen my friends killed...which I witnessed my ranger buddy get both his legs blown off." Rieckhoff went on to say: "...For Hollywood to glorify this crap is a huge slap in the face to every soldier who's been on the front line."[44]
On the embedded side, former correspondent for The Politico and Military Times Christian Lowe (who embedded with U.S. military units each year from 2002 to 2005) explained at DefenseTech: "Some of the scenes are so disconnected with reality to be almost parody."[45]
On the other hand, Henry Engelhardt, an adjutant with the National Explosive Ordnance Disposal Association and a man with 20 years of experience in bomb defusal, praised the film's atmosphere and depiction of the difficulties of the job, saying, "Of course, no film is realistic in all its details, but the important things were done very well."[46] Screenwriter Mark Boal noted that the film Transformers received full cooperation from military officials, but was a story about fighting aliens. The Hurt Locker was produced independently, without US Army extras.

| Well, one thing I can say - Angry Nate left the room - we was watching it, and he says it took him right back to when he was in conflict zones, and made him feel rather uncomfortable ... so I guess there's certainly an element of realism in it ... But it IS a movie, NOT a documentary, so they are allowed to bring in some poetic licence and make the thing portray the people involved rather than show exactly point-by-point how to disarm a bomb ... As a movie ... I kinda liked it ... | |
