Well, the 6 month tour has started again and I made it a whole 11 days before pissing Mom off this time! (I asked her to wipe up her coffee - I know, I know... the nerve!)
I am managing my emotions better this time around tho. I didn't get mad or feel guilty. I actually had to stifle a laugh when she rolled her eyes. whistle It is funny to me how the roles have reversed. It's like I'm raising a teenager! I can't wait to break out the "if you're going to live in MY house...." line ! Twisted Evil

No, we don't consider this heritage but the biggest fucking mistake in our history and nobody except a couple of insane psychopaths have nazi flags (or probably historically interested people who don't identify with it, like Lemmy). It's like the KKK in the US, a bunch of ridiculous idiots.
The rejection of naional socialism is so much taken for granted in Germany that I thought the irony would be clear for others, too.
It is against the law to even show a swastika, and even though there is a problematic situation in the East of Germany, where the number of neo nazi dumbasses is growing,
all in all there are almost none around. It is not even considered a legitimate political persuasion, but rather seen as something like terrorism.

I know you were being ironic, I know that Germany isn't a nazi stronghold or anything like that....I just meant that I can understand any lingering nazism in germany. Because it is in your not too distant past. Just like after 150 years of no slavery, there are people in southern states that just can't let go of that life. Some people just can't get over the hatred, and it's passed down generations. And since Nazism was so strong felt in the 30s and 40s...people fought and died for it...I can understand a "German Nazi" without condoning it.
believe it or not, I think nazism is stronger in north america than in europe....bunch of dumbasses who find any excuse to hate and for some reason latched on to Hitler's hatred. They have the swatstica flags and tattoos...haha the dumbasses ever have "american history x" posters....they don't realize that movie is actually an anti nazi movie.

Don't worry Stoney....I know you and 99.9% of germans are NOT nazis...I know your country has abandoned that life long ago. metal

What I love about that film is that the younger brother dies despite his change in the end.
It shows that the world is NOT built on disney logic, and it is an act of violence that is so senseless and depressing it makes you want to go out and
hug people and do everything just not to see anymore of this. Like those drug movies that give you an intense urge to live healthier and spend your days
in a meaningful way. But then I guess dumbasses have a sort of paradox reaction to disgusting things Cool A props, I got a really nice story about paradox reactions,
gotta post that in aminute.

concerning nazism … it is probably nowhere worse than in europe! there's the national front in france, the people's party in switzerland, the freedom party in the netherlands, the democrats in sweden, the people's party in denmark, the northern league in italy, the jobbik party in hungary – and the most extrem one is actually in austria – the so called freedom party, they are as close to neonazis as you can get and they are the third strongest party in the country. it is a fucking shame, undescribable. virtually every country in europe has it's right wing, i consider this one of our major problems. germany came to terms with the past much better than austria and i believe this is the reason why the national democratic party in germany gets only about 0.5-1.5 percent while the neo nazis here have a very real chance to gain political power.

Uh..OK so you were talking about the chick and her friends, I understand SMELLS LIKE...B U L L S H I T - Page 2 66860

But as far as people dying for nazism in the 30s and 40s and this being a brdige to modern nazism is concerned, I would not entirely agree.
Most Germans who died in those senseless idiotic wars did not die for Hitler.
Germany had since Hitler's violent revolution been split, and Wehrmacht, SS and SA were concurring forces, SS and SA were paramilitary organisations.
The SA had made Hitler big, starting off as SS (different meaning than the later SS), storming the party meetings of concurring parties before Hitler's rise,
and they were hated by the later formed SS, who were kept small by them until they overtook the SA.
The SS was the main force behind holocaust and war crimes.
So you'd think that at least members of the SS would be Nazis by default, but that's not true.
Once too much SS personell started dying on the east front, they started forcing people, kids included, in the SS. They would have been instantly shot on denial.
everyone knows these true stories about 6 year old soldiers in The Third Reich.

Hitler didn't have a great reputation in the military because his own rank when he had fought in WWI had been a low one, and all the high ranks were occupied by
the gentry. For them, he was a peasent that they looked down upon. That sure as hell was the wrong reason to hate Hitler, but many of them still did.
It is no wonder he needed to have his SS behind his own lines, shooting deserteurs once his war politics got more and more delusional.
Of course, parts of the Wehrmacht worked together with the SS and there were Wehrmacht war crimes, there is no more denying this.
(There is also no denying that behind many Wehrmacht soldiers shooting families there stood SS soldiers with their own guns. Not shooting=being shot.
There is a wonderful true story of one soldier putting down his gun, handing it to the SS soldier and walking over to the family he was ordered to shoot, being executed along with
the kids and women. THAT is willpower beyond our judgement. Nobody can say he'd do the same until they live this situation).
However, large parts of the military followed a different mindset than Hitler.
I won't call them pacifists lol, but then wars for expansion have not exactly grown out of style, have they *cough

My entire point is: The many Wehrmacht soldiers that died in WWII are not a reason for many people to like Hitler, rather the opposite.
There are two real factors why there are still a couple of Nazis in Germany:

1. One historical factor, rather concerning old people: Hitler was the best thing that happened to peasents in Germany (well, on short term of course).
They were supported a lot by his politics. This is why my Grandfather was a very hated man in his village, being anti-nazi.
Up to this day, many older German peasents buy Mengele tractors to support the family of the number one cruel Nazi psychopath Joseph Mengele in South America.
But that is really a silent group of old peasents who look at their portraits of Hitler from time to time with a tear in their eyes and wish back lol

2. The main, modern factor: There was one reason for The USSR to give back East Germany:
They had DESTROYED the country and sucked it dry.
Western spies were so dumb as not to realize that all the factories did not produce anything anymore until the wall was gone and they walked in and saw...nothing.
People would have starved, end of story.
So the USSR stole everything they could steal in 1989, all the gold, all the art from the museums (nobody talks about that anymore), everything, and then said:
"PEACE! LOVE! Take your country back". So the former GDR was happy and starving.

Western German politicians welcomed the people with infinite Western ignorance, promising immediate riches.
It did not work out, so even today people in the East earn less for the same work, they have a harder life and many of them wish the GDR back (because they don't realize it is the reason for their poorness). Had Germany reunited one year later, people would probably still realize today how they were exploited and not wish back upon the Russian regime.
But as it is, they are frustrated and do what they have grown accustomed to do in GDR times: Blame "those above". For some people, sadly, this means blaming democracy.
I know it sounds absurd, but some wish back upon communism AND are Nazis. Of course I am talking about onyl a few people, not everybody in the East! They think it is the current system that causes their problems (partly it is, of course),
and simply want change at all price.
The big parties here (ALL assholes) have given up upon the poorer parts of the East. The only ones doing something for the people there are Nazi parties.
They infiltrate kindergartens and day nurseries and they organize public festivals. They do A LOT of positive things were all other parties have given the people up.
Of course this is because they try to drag families into their insane club of hateful psychopaths, but they seem like angels to many people.
What they preach to the people is that immigrants stole their jobs and that would be why they are jobless.
In reality, there are no immigrants in Eastern Germany (outside Berlin, of course). Nobody moves there.
There are entire cities with but a handful of immigrants, that's all. But hey, immigrants are an easy target to blame.

And this is why there is a completely new movement of Nazis in Eastern Germany. This happens detached from our history.
Those guys don't even know their own history anymore. They know that their kids have fun at the public festival, that's what they know.
And the only one to blame for that are the saturated fat pigs in our big parties, who don't care for anyone.

Wow, did anyone even read this far? That was one long post. Well, it's my view on our history. It's not gonna be neutral, as there is no neutral telling of history.
If anyone diagrees, I am ready to listen.
I'm gonna watch Black Swan now, bye Cool

back on topic: i agree with what you've presented as facts, i'm not sure if there really was that much tension between hitler, ss, sa and the wehrmacht though. evidence?

Oh, I did not mean between Hitler and the SA/SS.
Those were close to him allt he time (except for the many young people forced into the SS), just not close to each other. The SA constantly kept the SS small by making a rule they could only have a maximum of a tenth of the number the SA troops had in every city, and a maxiumum of ten paramilitary soldiers plus one leader or something along the lines. At some point, the SS just had all SA leaders killed and took over the entire business.

The only connection I don't see as a direct one would be Hitler-Wehrmacht.
I am VERY far from gloryfying the Wehrmacht, but to regard them as Hitler's army is not correct, IMO.
They were there before Hitler, and they saw themselves as fighting for Germany. There was always tension between the leaders of the Wehrmacht and Hitler,
and it's just a shame they did not do anything efficient to kill him.
Another point is the German loyalty. Germans are very loyal people to this day.
This can be positive, but it clearly was idiotically wrong in that time.
Even a General who hated Hitler would have had big problems to refuse orders or even putsch him.

I was arguing that German soldiers did not generally die for Hitler.
In the Napoleonean army, yes many died for Napoleon and identified with the war, but it's not that easy with the Wehrmacht.
It's just not truer that Wehrmacht=Nazis by default.

I think trainspotting critcizes both ways of living. Your only choice cannot possibly be between being a conformist slave of society or an equally conformist, self-destructive slave of a drug subculture. There MUST be something else out there.

I find that quite often, members of subcultures (goths, emos, punks, speedheads, stoners, headbangers, whatever) can be very arrogant about being better because they don't "conform" like all the other assholes, But at the same time, they miss the fact that their own little world might be just as full of rules and lies and suppressing people.

Which I don't relate on you smoking a joint when you watch Lammbock (hilarious movie), but it's something to think about in general, and it's also how I saw Trainspotting.

Yeah, so I was gonna tell a story about paradoxical reactions.
Don't know whether it's the same in English, but a paradoxical reaction is when you give people something like a sedative, and it has the opposite effect on the person,
and some people always have paradoxical reactions to certain substances.

The neighbour's son (15 yo) suffers from hardcore migraine, and he had a fit in school last week.
There was a supply teacher who did not know about his migraine, and his head ached so hard that he could not explain what was going on.
She called an ambulance. The first thing the meatheads from the ambulance did was give him the same damn sedative they give to everyone so they don't cause any trouble.
This is the one that he is known to react paradoxically to.
So he went wild and started to beat the idiot in the ambulance.
They stuffed him straight into psychiatry and filled him with drugs.

Then, as they could not admit to the mistake they had made, they phoned his school and told them the only plausible reason for his breakdown must have been
a drug overdose, which must also have caused the paradox reaction.

So someone from his school called his dad, who works nightshifts and was sleeping in his wifebeater, and said: "Your son overdosed on drugs in school and is now in psychiatry, please go there and sign something to allow them to get him into the locked ward." Pretty nice phone call, huh? He didn't mind getting dressed but immediately jumped on his motorcycle and raced to the hospital. What you should also know is that the little one (whom I babysit sometimes, cutest 3 year old EVER) had accidentally hit his father in the eye with a bat and caused a black eye.

So the migraine lead to the following situation:
Daddy running into hospital with a black eye, wearing a wifebeater, and saying: "I just got a call that my son has overdosed on drugs in school and is in the psychiatric ward now, where can I find him?" Now doesn't that teach us not to judge too quickly?

Luckily, his wife is a nurse, and when he called her at work she knew immediately what was going on.
She made a call to the hospital and said:
-"I know what you did, you gave him this and that drug, didn't you?"
-"Uh, yes"
-"NEVER HEARD ABOUT A PARADOXICAL REACTION YOU FUCKING BUNCH OF IDIOTS?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

So he was immediately released and NOT transferred to the locked ward, a place where you probably get drugged some more and cannot be released for at least 2 weeks,
And who knows what further damage their drugs cause. This may be a one way street.
Last time I checked, migraine was not considered a form of madness.
I think this episode is very telling of some things going wrong in my country (and yours, too, I'm pretty sure).
