| I never got a sense that the downboard was biased on this topic one way, or the other.....only that it had been re-hashed about 8000 times.....this topic is shut down pretty much whenever it comes up....
just because it's Wattages' man cave doesn't mean we're all insane....

Anyway, I have no clue about your reasons for that but this sounds actually kinda cool to me … not to waste time on media … I don't know much about that story either, not even who Rita is … should I care about it? (and I am a fan of both Down (massiv) and Pantera (mediocre))

(and I am a fan of both Down (massiv) and Pantera (mediocre)) Rita was Dime's puppy love whom he married. Contrary to other rockstars, he was happy with one woman.

| Part two... I'll put it all in one post in the end so it'll be more readable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...The boys just wanted to know how much I coudl take, they wanted to know whether I'm tough.
Oh, I know that kind of test very well. When I first tried to interview you, you put a Whiskey bottle to my mouth and would not be content till I had downed half of it...
Hahahahaha! (Ironically:) I'm sooooooooo sorry :-) That was a long time ago... Well, Dime was the head of Pantera back then. we'd smoke a little weed and drink three glasses of Tequila. I had to force the third one down...but I could hardly puke all over the house of Vinnie's mom, could I?... I was doing pretty good, but I couldn't drink another drop either. I said: "Boys, I'm just not a big friend of Tequila. That stuff tastes horrible!" But there was nothign else, because they didn't sell alcohol at night in Texas back then. So we got drunk on booze. The next morning, I woke with a hangover and stumbled to the airport. I had drunk with the boys. I had listened to the new demos, and I knew where it all was heading. It didn't sound any like Vulgar Display, well of course it didn't. Thatc ame latzer, when we were a closer unit. Those were the Power Metal tracks that I got to hear. But I knew already that the boys wanted to make heavier music, which I welcomed very much. Anyway, I had survived that night and I had a hell of a hangover. From only 3 shots of Tequila, it didn't take mor ethan that abck then. But then again, I ahdn't eaten anything... (pained laugh)
Oh well, I guess I had passed the test.
What is your favorite memory of Dime?
Oh man, that's impossible to answer. When I think of dimebag, it comes to mind immediately that he could turn shit into gold. We'd be sitting in the middle of nowhere, drinking out of boredom, and nothing was happening. ...that is until Dime got rollin' He could electrify us all, and all of a sudden the middle of nowhere became the most entertainign spot on Earth. He was always having fun one way or another-and be it just throwing beer bottles at traffic signs. He'd be doing shit like that all the time. If you hit a sign, you'd get a shot as a reward. You never got bored around Dime.
And I admired his creativity. He was an insanely strong person. I think we had a lot in common. Both of us, we were not the superficial kind, but pretty *sensitive* (I'm not sure about this translation. One of the hardest words to translate Ger-Engl). He had such clear, piercing blue eyes - unlike anybody else. He was one deep motherfucker...these words come to my mind spontaneously thinking of him. His laugh, his one of a kind laugh, his sense of humor. I miss him beside me on stage. Believe me, I often wish for him to be there then. yeah, that are the thoughts that cross my mind...

| PART III
DIMEBAG DIED THREE YEARS AGO. IN WHAT RESPECTS HAVE YOU CHANGED SINCE THEN?
I have to come back to my back surgery again. Once you have titan implanted in your body - I have three discs of it in my spine- your life changes tremendously. I ruined my back hopping around stage recklessly, stagediving off the PA system into the crowd. I literally wrecked myself for the music, night after night. I was young and didn't know what else to do with my life. I am an addictive personality (in the sense of in danger of getting addicted, Stoney), and I should have stayed away from painkillers and drugs. But look at the youth, especially here in the US: They are all in the same danger. And not only the young, everyone basically. So I stepped in that trap-but eventually, I was able to free myself again. When you have been through such heavy surgery, you learn to cherish every moment. Every morning, after I get up, I have to do my exercices. I cannot get drunk out of my senses anymore. I can't afford a hangover, nor dehydrated muscles. That hurts too damn much, and it would ruin my day. I start off every morning with 30 minutes of stretching, before getting myself even halfway to work properly. I try to propagate this same discipline to others who can use my help. I think most people behave like this after getting over some blow of fate. I held a speech at my college last year...or was it earlier this year?? Nevermind. So I went to Loyola University and spoke to 300 music students. ONe of them had died from an overdose; that had been a blow for all of them. They had asked me to come by and say a few words-which I gladly did. I also helped some motherfuckers from my personal circle of friends, I kicked their asses royally. IN which I was 80% successful-not a bad ratio, or so I should say. Of course there are some people you just cannot help. People who need to make their own mistakes. They have to hit ground first. Which is exactly like I was- "Phil, PHil, something's going severely wrong here!"..."Youn have to do this, you have to do that..." How many times did I hear that? But I considered myself the most important person on the planet, and all I was focussed on was the pain in my back. I would never have given up drugs voluntarily. A lot of people think this way, I should know. And today I help other hard heads. WHoever wants to really work on themselves can come to my door anytime. SOme hvae taken the invitation. And you get stronger by helping other people. I feel that every day.
DO YOU STILL REMEMBER WHERE YOU WERE WHEN YOU ELARNED OF DIME'S DEATH?
Yes, today I do...I was lying in bed, at home. The phone rang-and I could not remember who was on the phone for two years. Later I found out that it was Rex who brought me the evil tidings. I just sank in my pain for the next years and I almost didn't make it through that.

more to come, I gotta get to my lectures now..
