| I read an interview with Phil Anselmo today in a German mag, and he says he has met Rita and they had a long, constructive conversation, and that the war is over. I would appreciate that very much. The interview is pretty interesting, if anyone cares, I'll translate the most important bits when I have time. | |

| sounds like it. I would've bet rita didn't have an ounce of common sense in her body though. Consider me impressed. | |

| Interesting. Props to both of Phil and Rita. Though I have my own thoughts and opinions on "that" subject, and the subject of the passing of Darrell, I really hope in my lifetime that MAYBE someday Vinnie and Phil can at least talk to each other. Its a touchy subject. I wont lie. If I wre in Vinnie's shoes, I cant say that I wouldnt be the way he is about it all. BUT..at the same time, I also try to look at it from Phil's point of view (only going by what Ive read. Well, hell...go listen to "mourn"..good enough right there, innit?). I cant imagine being on either side of that fence. Perhaps this between Rita and Phillip may help to open a door for Vince and Phil to talk. I hope so. (And Im sure there are others who feel the same. Looking forward to your translation, stoney and thanks for passing it on. | |

| Id rather read about that kinda thing here or on other boards OTHER than the DB. Its one of those subjuects that gets all fucked up if brought up there. Plus theres alot of bias towards a certain side when it comes to that. | |

Well as we all know, Phil pretty much dropped Pantera in a not-so-nice way, and Dime and Vinnie were very pissed. Phil blames part of his often inacceptable, asocial and idiotic behavior (while being in Pantera and afterwards) on the extreme drugs he had to take to live with his ruined back, and I would not go so far in my judgement as an outsider to completely deny this idea. So, between the former best friends Dime and Phil, there was big trouble. Phil said in an interview that Dime deserved to be "severely beaten". Two friends having beef. Happened to all of us, didn't it? COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO THIS, a psycho coward killed Dime on the same date that Lennon was killed, in order to become famous. It is important not to mention the person's name, or else we help to fullfill his wish to become some kind of star and at the same time encourage further attacks like this. Forget his name, please. Then both Rita Haney, Dime's widow, and Vinnie blamed it all on Phil. Which was unlogical, but at the same time understandable. I think both the widow and the brother of a passed away person are allowed to have thoughts like this. They denied Phil the right to come to attend the funeral, which deeply hurt him. Rita has since stated several times that Phil is to blame, and part of her reasoning was that Phil destroyed Pantera->Dime had to play in small clubs again->lower security level->easier to attack While this kind of makes sense in a purely logical way, it does not in a moral sense. Phil could not foresee the future. Yes, he did commit more than enough bullshit. But never did he wish for or encourage or cause the murder of Dimebag Darrell. I am happy him and Rita came to terms again, and I really hope Vinnie can do the same. Dime is one of my musical heroes, and so is Phil. | |

| As far as the downbaord is concerned, yeah Phil is in Down, so hordes of Phil Phanbois are on that board, too, among a bunch of very nice, intelligent and interesting people with whom I like to chat on the internet. It's clear that the different bands that came together to form Down attract different audiences. I love Pnatera, I'm a Pantera fan myself, but it is clear that there are a lot of dumbasses in that fanbase. While having much improved as a person lately, Phil did have times of attracting dumbasses like a lightbulb attracts moths lol And guys... I was afraid that if I posted this topic here, the discussion might end up in some kind of hostile argument as it seems ot be a cursed topic. If the story of Phil and Dime teaches us something, it is peace, peace, peace Thanks for posting the link, Hope, but I think I got a different interview here which I'll translate, at least the most important parts. | |

| Awww Stoney, you didn't cause no ruckus boi I hope that they have reconciled. What happened was just too sad... I have a pic of Phil from an interview in which he spoke a little about the passing of Dime, it shows him hugging a Dime guitar and man the pain in him, you can feel it every time you look at the picture. Denying him the right to attend the funeral, that was cruel, but I can understand her thinking despite heartily disagreeing with it and I can understand Vinnie's stance; he watched his brother die, there's nothing that can make that better not ever and sometimes blame is the only way to stay sane. Grief makes us think and say terrible things sometimes, but it's generally for our own protection because grief is such an all-consuming and terribly black emotion. It renders us helpless. | |

| Ok, the interview is really long, so I'll post it divided in parts and leave some minor things out:
From Rock Hard Magazine Number 273, February 2010
PHIL ANSELMO: "I USED TO THINK I WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON ON THIS PLANET"
DO YOU THINK YOU ARE BEING TREATED FAIRLY IN THE PUBLIC DISCOURSE ABOUT THE PANTERA SPLIT?
"Now, yes. When I give interviews because of Down, I do have the opportunity to clear things up. [...] I don't think you can judge a person from what your ead in an interview."
HOW DO YOU SEE THE MUSIC OF PANTERA NOWADAYS? DOES IT OVERSHADOW DOWN?
It should! ANd I can finally admit that. 4,5,6 years ago, I sat down and listened to all the Pantera CDs in a row-the same way an outsider, a fan would do. That was a great experience, something that gave me a deeper understanding. When you make music, you go to war. You let all your aggression run free- and you lose any objective angle. You have to gain a certain distance first before you can listen to your own music and evaluate it in any way.
DO YOU PERCEIVE THE INFLUENCE PANTERA HAS ON MODERN MUSIC?
Yes I do. That's a natural development, it's just how the game works. Had ther enot been abnds like Judas Priest, MEtallica or Exodus - and many, many more- there would have been no Pantera. We were a part of that cycle, in the same way today's bands are. And I wish them all the best.
COULD YOU IMAGINE A PANTERA REUNION - MAYBE WITH SOMEONE LIKE ZAKK WYLDE ON GUITAR?
Never.
IMPOSSIBLE?
Unthinkable.
SOMETIMES, WHILE WRITING SONGS FOR DOWN OR YOUR OTHER PROJECTS, DO YOU ASK YOURSELF HOW DIME WOULD HAVE PLAYED THEM?
What I learned form Dime was a quality standard. He would just work and sweat in the studio until he was 100% satisfied, sometimes 10 hours on end. That was true for all of us, but Dime was a different league in the studio. So when I write or record something today, I often ask myself: God, would Dime accept that? Would he say I've given 100%? Or would he say I can do better? Or that I did great?
IF YOU HAD FIVE MINUTES WITH DIME, WHAT WOUDL YOU SAY TO HIM?
I love you. I love you. I love you. And I would tell him about my back surgery. I'd say: If you're here already, let's write a song. Let's drink a beer, and then write a song. And if you can manage to stay just a little longer, let's make an album, man! Let's tour!
DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH DIME?
Yeah, that's a fairly simple story: I flew to Dallas to audition for the band. Rex picked me up at the airport, and we went to this little studio in Pantego, Texas. There he was, sitting behind the mixing desk. He was the second person in the band I met. The third was Vinnie. We'd jam a little and get to know each other. Then we'd drive over to the House of Vinnie's mom. Darrell was 19, I was 17.... somebody would open a bottle of Tequila - and I'm not a friend of Tequila. Today I can't drink anymore booze at all. Back then I'd drink whiskey every now and then, but never Tequila. The guys wanted to see if I'm tough...

| Cool Stones... Watt gave me the story last night - I realized in the wee hours that all this occured in 2004ish and I was deep in media/technology blackout and in a blackout meself - basically anything that happened in 2000-2007 I's got no real clue about at all. I had thought Dime had been killed in a accident - not a murder. I also have always been a wee put off by Phil - he just sits wrong with me - maybe it WAS the drugs etc...I'm glad he's pulled his shit together, harder than anyone knows who hasn't stepped away from the brink - I hope he stays this way and continues makin amends and being positive. | |
