Seriously - you shoulda seen Jan's face when "Devil's walkin' into tooooooooowwwwwwwwwwnnn!" suddenly launched outta the speakers .... hahaha - as you can see - he wouldn't dance to his own tuneage

However, there were a dozen people up and dancing on the floor by the end of the song, several came over to me and Craig saying what an awesome track that was, and asking "who was it by?" - "Him!" I says!!! hahahaha! x x x

Handfasting - Pagan tradition - it's where the expression "tying the knot" comes from when getting married ....

Handfasting is a traditional European ceremony of betrothal or wedding. The term is derived from the verb to handfast, used in Middle to Early Modern English for the making of a contract of marriage. The term is originally from Old Norse hand-festa "to strike a bargain by joining hands." or a translation from German,"Hände fest halten" that is to hold hands firmly and fixedly.

The marriage vows taken may be for "a year and a day," a lifetime, "for all of eternity" or "for as long as love shall last." Whether the ceremony is legal, or a private spiritual commitment, is up to the couple. Depending on the state where the handfasting is performed, and whether or not the officiant is a legally recognized minister, the ceremony itself may be legally binding, or couples may choose to make it legal by also having a civil ceremony.


Our friend Marie was the officiant at the ceremony, she is a legally recognised pagan minister. However, as 'handfasting' is not a legally binding act in the UK (not sure about anywhere else) we also had a 'legal' civil ceremony earlier in the day. We kept the exchanging of our rings for the handfasting cerermony, and the rings are then blessed and passed over the four elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water as Craig and I have our hands (well, wrists really) bound together with a velvet ribbon, (see below).



You can see the wooden bowl on the altar behind us where the rings were submerged briefly in water, they were passed over a burning candle flame for the 'Fire' representation, placed upon a great big chunk of quartz representing 'Earth', and also passed through the vapour from some burning incence smoke to represent 'Air' ...

Craig and I then had to do the tradional 'jumping of the broomstick' to complete the marriage ceremony


I'll try and find a better piccy, but this is us 'jumping the broom' ...

Apparently if we then jump backwards over the broom again it will annull the wedding ... But we didn't do that m'kay?

The morning after the night before ....


Me at breakfast the following day ... tired but happy ... trying to get used to everyone calling me "Mrs Spicer"


A couple of days later ... punting up the River Cam, with my hubby, my mum, and my new nephews ...

Ahh-Ha - found a piccy just before the broom-jumping ....

And the cake ... hmmm not a great piccy ... but it was a plain white-iced 3-tier cake, decorated with fresh matching flowers, just like my bouquet ...
